Central Vacuum Installation in Utah — What to Expect

Whether you are building a new home along the Wasatch Front, finishing a basement in South Jordan, or retrofitting a Park City property, a central vacuum system is one of the most useful upgrades you can make. At Swiss Boy Vacuum, we have been installing central vacuum systems throughout Utah for years — and we want to give you a clear picture of what the process looks like before you commit.

Where We Install in Utah

We serve homeowners and builders throughout the greater Salt Lake City area and across the Wasatch Front, including:

Salt Lake City and the surrounding valley

South Jordan, Sandy, and Draper

Provo, Orem, and Utah County

Ogden and Weber County

Park City and the surrounding mountain communities

Davis County — Bountiful, Layton, Farmington

Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a call — if it is in Utah, there is a good chance we can help.

New Construction vs. Existing Home Installation

New construction

New construction is the ideal time to install a central vacuum system. During the framing stage, before drywall goes up, our installer runs PVC tubing through open walls and floors to every planned inlet location. It is clean, fast, and the most cost-effective installation possible. We work directly with builders and contractors throughout Utah and can coordinate with your build schedule at any stage — rough-in wiring for central vacuum is typically done at the same time as electrical rough-in.

Existing home retrofit

Retrofitting a central vacuum into a finished home takes more skill but is very doable in most cases. Our installer routes tubing through attic space, crawl spaces, and interior walls — using existing access points wherever possible to minimize drywall work. The majority of Utah home styles, including the ranch homes common in the valley and the two-story layouts common in newer developments, are well-suited to retrofit installation. We aim to complete most retrofits with zero or minimal drywall repair.

What Happens on Installation Day

Here is a straightforward walkthrough of a typical Utah installation:

Our installer arrives and does a walkthrough with you to confirm inlet placement and the power unit location — usually the garage or a utility room.

Tubing is run from the power unit location to each inlet, routed through walls, attic, or crawlspace as needed.

Inlet valves are mounted in the wall and wired with low-voltage wire that activates the unit automatically when the hose is plugged in.

The power unit is mounted on the wall and connected to the tubing and a standard 120V outlet.

The exhaust is vented outside through the garage wall or routed to an outdoor location.

Each inlet is tested for suction and the system is verified before we leave.

We walk you through how to use the system, change the bag or empty the canister, and what maintenance looks like going forward.

Most installations take 4 to 8 hours for an average Utah home. Larger homes or more complex retrofit layouts may take a full day. We do not rush installations — we would rather take the time to route the tubing cleanly than leave a job that looks or works like it was done in a hurry.

What Does It Cost in Utah?

Installed central vacuum costs in Utah are in line with national averages:

New construction rough-in + power unit for a typical Utah home (2,000 – 3,500 sq ft): $1,000 – $1,800

Retrofit installation in an existing home: $1,400 – $2,500 depending on size and layout

Large home or custom build (4,000 sq ft+): $2,000 – $4,000+

Adding Hide-A-Hose retractable inlets: add $400 – $700 per inlet

These are ballpark figures — actual pricing depends on your home's layout, the system you choose, and the number of inlets. Contact us for a quote based on your specific home.

Why Work With Swiss Boy Vacuum?

We are a Utah-based, locally owned vacuum specialist — not a big-box store, not a national chain. Central vacuum systems are one of our core specialties, not an afterthought. That means you are working with someone who actually knows these systems, stocks the parts, and will still be here to service your system in five or ten years.

We carry VacuFlo, Intervac, Chameleon and Hide-A-Hose systems and seevice all brands. We can help you choose the right system for your home size and budget, install it correctly, and back it up with parts and service for the life of the unit.

If you are into cleaner, healthier indoor air, building, renovating, or just ready to stop fighting with a portable vacuum — we would love to help.

Visit our store in Bountiful, just north of Salt Lake City, browse our central vacuum systems online, or contact us to get a quote for your home.
