Polyester is now the number one textile base material used in carpet construction. 

It is popular due to its lower costs and soft to the touch feel. Polyester us reasonably stain and fade resistant, but not soil resistant. Especially when it comes to the collection of oils and dry dirt, which quickly gives the appearance of a stain. The major drawback of polyester is is cleaning complexity. This complexity is due to the oleophilic  ( a strong attraction to oils) nature. Polyester fibers aren't crush resistant and develop memory particularly when cleaned with traditional detergents containing petroleum distillates and oil based ingredients that weaken and alter the fibers shape and structure.
