Retractable Hose Stuck in the Wall?

Retractable Hose Stuck in the Wall?

Discover the ins and outs of central vacuum retractable hose cuffs. While quality tested, occasional cuff detachment or hose entanglement may occur. Manufacturers are working on solutions for tighter cuffs and improved designs.

Central Vacuum Retractable Hose Cuffs Disconnected Stuck in The Wall?

The retracting hose is one of the most important components of the retractable system. Most hoses are made in the USA under strict quality control measures. A percentage of hoses are removed from the assembly line and tested for both air flow, retraction time & defects.

Even with these quality control measures, there are occasions that a hose cuff can become unthreaded from the end of the hose. Although reattaching the cuff to the hose is simple, the bigger concern is when the hose gets sucked into the pipe, making it difficult to retrieve the hose.

Why does this happen?

  • If the hose cuff is not threaded completely tight during manufacturing, the cuff can begin to unthread over time when customers use the hose cuff to pull the hose out. On rare occasions, the hose cuff may come off completely.
  • Manufacturers are aware of this issue and has ensured us that they are checking the tightness of cuffs, but there may still be occasions when the cuff is loose upon delivery.

Short-Term Solutions

  • Technicians should check to make sure the hose cuff is completely tight before installing the hose (remember that the hose cuffs are reverse threaded). This will greatly decrease the likelihood of the cuff coming off the hose.
  • Some Technicians choose to apply Pliobond glue to the cuff threads and then reinstall the cuff in the hose.

Long-Term Solution

  • New designs has been approved which will prevent the hose cuff from unthreading.
  • The tool is being built and we expect the new cuff to be in production in 2024.

Hose Retrieval

  • If the hose does gets stuck in the pipe, you can retrieve the hose by creating a Hose Retrieval Tool. Check out the video below to see how this works!
