Finding the Right Vacuum

The right vacuum depends on your flooring, your household, and how much you want to spend on maintenance over time. A few questions worth thinking through:

Carpet or hard floors? Upright vacuums with motorized brushrolls are generally best for carpet. Canister vacuums offer more flexibility for mixed surfaces and above-floor cleaning.

Pets? Look for a machine with strong airflow, a sealed filtration system, and a brushroll designed to handle hair wrap — not just one that markets itself as a pet vacuum.

Allergies? Sealed HEPA filtration matters more than HEPA filters alone. A vacuum with a HEPA filter but poor body sealing just routes dusty air around the filter. Riccar's tandem air technology and Sanitaire's sealed systems are genuinely effective for allergy households.

Commercial or residential? Sanitaire and Lindhaus machines are built for commercial durability — hotels, offices, schools — but they work equally well in homes that see heavy use. If you've burned through multiple residential vacuums, a commercial-grade machine may be the more economical long-term choice.
